Hospital Hottie: Darlene. I Lied: In “Dog Wave” Sanjay makes a deal with Noodman that the latter won’t call animal control on Sanjay’s dogs if Sanjay can replace Noodman’s blueberries, only for Noodman to go back on his word. It Tastes Like Feet: In “Flip Flopas” when the gang eat Frycade wings and the Flip Flopas make them taste bad, Craig comments they taste like “sewer toots”. Ironic Echo: Megan is practicing CPR on a dummy http://www.smuleadershipsymposium.com/2012/12/04/but-just-what-his-character-will-do-namely/, to which Craig says “I believe they prefer to be called ‘stupid people’.” After shooing them out of the room, she says, “Dummies, or should I say, stupid people.” Jerkass: Mr. Noodman. He hates snakes and children and plots to get rid of Craig. He’s also loud and obnoxious. His father is much, much worse. Because of him, you can’t help but feel bad for poor Noodman, which could indicate a possible Heel Face Turn. Tyson is also a jerk to Sanjay when it comes to winning Belle’s affection. Limited Wardrobe: Darlene wears her scrubs even when off duty. Little Boy Seeks Big Girl: Sanjay (12 years old) has a crush on Belle Pepper (15 years old). Living Prop: There are several recognizable kid characters that show up in background roles and crowd scenes every now nd then. The most common ones include a redheaded girl in a light pink dress and purple boots, and a ginger haired boy who wears a green shirt. Local Hangout: The Frycade. Half arcade and half wing themed diner. Loves My Alter Ego: Sanjay develops a crush on Susan Loogie, who is actually Megan attempting to get him to dance with her. Master of Disguise: Craig. Mixed Ancestry: Sanjay is half Indian (his father is from India) and half white American, in probably one of the few times in American animation that they have a mixed race child as the protagonist and not just a cheap prop in a Very Special Episode about racial diversity or a supporting character to the white protagonist. My Instincts Are Showing: In “Booger Johnson”, Craig can’t resist trying to eat Megan’s pet gerbil.”I can’t help it. I’m a snake. He’s a gerbil. That equals snack. It’s nature’s math.”
Supplemental material: A New Dawn, a novel released about a month before the start of the series which provides backstory about two of the show’s major characters: Kanan Jarrus and Hera Syndulla. Ezra’s Gamble, a junior novel taking place shortly before the start of the series. Kanan, a prequel comic further detailing the past of Kanan Jarrus at the very end of the Clone Wars and the beginning of the Dark Times, was also released, with former showrunner Greg Weisman writing several issues. Ahsoka, a young adult novel that reveals how Ahsoka’s survival in the aftermath of the Clone Wars led to her position in the Rebellion as we see in her debut. There are also a number of other supplementary books to the series, including The Rebellion Begins, a novelization and Adaptation Expansion of the premiere film Spark of Rebellion, and Servants of the Empire, a four book series focused on Zare Leonis, an Imperial cadet who ends up serving as a spy for the Rebels. Star Wars Rebels Magazine contained eight page comic strips that took place in between episodes of the show. Adventures in Wild Space takes place shortly after the rise of the Empire and contains cameos of characters from Lothal as well as nods towards concepts first introduced in Rebels. The short story, Mercy Mission, explores Hera (and Chopper in a minor role) as a younger pilot delivering supplies to the Free Ryloth Movement while she was still centered around her homeworld. The short story, Rebel Bluff, revolves around Vizago, Lando, and Jho prior to the Siege of Lothal. The short story, TK 462, is a Lower Deck Episode, which, towards the end, explores a background event taking place on Lothal during the absence of the Ghost crew sometime in Season 2. Thrawn, a prequel novel about the titular villain, which was later adapted into a comic series. Received a sequel, Thrawn: Alliances.
